Design
Bilbo recognizes Bard the Bowman as a compassionate and honorable figure who defends the town’s vulnerable residents against the oppression and greed of The Master. Although it puts him in personal danger, Bard chooses to offer the Dwarves food and shelter, only to learn that their ultimate mission is to journey to the Lonely Mountain and reclaim their homeland from the dragon Smaug.
