This is an authentic Roman denarius from the reign of Emperor Elagabalus (218–222 AD), a striking silver coin that captures the unique religious iconography of his rule. It’s a compact, well-preserved example of Imperial Rome’s silver coinage.
Obverse: Laureate, draped bust of Elagabalus facing right, rendered in the classical imperial portrait style. Reverse: Depicts Sol (the sun god) radiate and mostly nude, cloaked over the left shoulder, standing left with right hand raised and a whip in the left hand, with a star in the field — a clear reference to Elagabalus’s promotion of the Syrian sun god.
- Country: Ancient Rome
