Fleming served as the Chief Cashier of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand from 1956 until 1967, and his signature is present on the final series of pre-decimal New Zealand banknotes, including the 10 pound note. These notes, which were in circulation until the decimalisation in July 1967, featured the New Zealand Coat of Arms and a sailing ship on the obverse, with a flock of sheep on the reverse, along with a watermark of a Māori chief.
