Before the establishment of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand in 1934, various private trading banks issued their own banknotes, and among them, the Bank of New Zealand was the most prominent. These notes were part of what was known as a "Uniform Issue" among the trading banks, where a standardized size and general design were adopted for each denomination for convenience.
