This Henry VIII silver groat belongs to the renowned Second Coinage period, struck at the Tower Mint in London between 1526 and 1544. This era is highly regarded for the introduction of the "Laker" style portrait—a realistic, characterful profile of the King facing right. Unlike the stylised portraits of his predecessors, this issue captures the monarch's distinctive features during the height of his power.
The obverse legend HENRIC VIII D G R AGL Z FRANC asserts his claim as King of England and France by the Grace of God.
The reverse features the long cross fourchée superimposed over a quartered shield representing the arms of England and France.
Struck in 0.925 sterling silver.
- country: England
- year: 1526–1544
